celebration!

Today we celebrated Isaac’s upcoming 4th birthday.  This celebration was awesome, and it happened to fall on World Prematurity day – a day to recognize premature births and raise awareness.  We just so happened to schedule Isaac’s party today, but the recognition of prematurity today made it that much more of a celebration.

Isaac weighed 3 lbs, 3 ounces at birth.  I had spent 4 weeks on bed rest at home and 2 and a half in the hospital before he was born.  My only job was to keep him safe and “cooking” and I had an awesome team showing me how to do this.  Unfortunately, Isaac had different plans – he wanted to get here for Thanksgiving.  Since then, Isaac has called the shots – it is will, and drive that brought him here that night, that continues to make him who he is.

So, our birthday celebration took on new meaning today.  Isaac had an AMAZING day.  He wore his special Cars Pit Crew outfit, for his cars party.  Our day started with the drop off of Isaac’s awesome cake – made by Alison, of Simply Cakes by Alison.  This cake was so great.  We submitted his name to an organization called Icing Smiles, they hook up bakers with kids that deserve a special cake, Isaac’s cake made his day.

Isaac was greeted at his party by friends and family, and an awesome racetrack built by grandpa Joe, and lots of fun!  He was glued to his racetrack, we’ll be moving it to his toy room very soon 🙂

Every birthday is special, for every child.  This being said, Isaac is celebrating his 4th birthday in a week – he has spent half of his birthdays in the hospital.  Just the fact that we didn’t have to postpone this party is reason to celebrate.  Isaac is so social now, and was excited about his upcoming party – so much fun to watch him prepare!

So, today we celebrate the fact that our once 3 lb, 3 oz baby is a strong, happy, healhthy (if you excuse that esophagus and those lungs) little boy.  His strength and viatality are inspiration.
