another day, another surgery

Wednesday is the big day, surgery day. This will be Isaac’s 25th surgery, give or take. It’s been a few years since we’ve faced a major surgery, and Isaac is definitely older and wiser…….
This one has us all feeling a bit stressed out, it’s not in our realm. Rib surgery is new to us, we can handle esophageal stuff, no sweat. This one is BIG. We are finally starting to undo all of the damage done to fix Isaac in the first place.
This surgery will involve separating Isaac’s fused ribs and placing a rod along the length of the ribcage to keep the ribs open. Every 6 months or so he will return to the operating to have that rod stretched, to keep up with his growth.
If all goes according to plan, this is the first step towards getting his trach out. Something he very much looks forward to at this point.
Please keep Isaac in your thoughts, facing surgery isn’t easy – especially at the age of 8. bornstrong
